Verzaschese sheep is for the Ticinese the sheep par excellence: the first animals were introduced in the area of Luino, province of Varese, Lombardy, thanks to exchanges with Swiss breeders and the community of some pasture areas. This medium-large sized sheep features a completely black, shiny coat; short hair, thicker during wintertime (the male, more powerful, also have a beard and longer hair on their withers) and 40-cm long horns, sligltly bent backwards. Now there are in Lombardy about 1100 goats in 65 farms.Verzaschese is currently bred in the province of Varese and in Swiss Canton Ticino.
