Also known as Frontalasca (from the town of Frontale in Val Rezzalo, in Valtellina, where it is thought to come from), with the passing of time it spread through all of high Valtellina, where it is breeded in a semi-wild state when the season allows it and in stables during wintertime. it is a large sized sheep, stout, muscular and well-proportioned. Its hair is of a medium length, thick and shiny, typically black apart from two characteristic white stripes on the sides of its head, belly, unudertail and extremities of its legs. Its head has a straight profile, slightly concave, and features long sabre horns, rarely absent. This is a dual-puropse breed: it hasa good yield in meat (one of the local typical product tied to this breed is viulìn de càvra de Ciàvéna) and a more than satisfying milk yield for such a rustic breed. It is currently bred in Val Rezzalo, in the municipality of Sondalo, province of Sondrio, Lombardy.
