It is located in Vihiga county, Emuhaya district in Esirulo area. Stella and her husband Okilla run the family garden, though normally the tasks are shared among the 7 family members. The working together of the couple brings harmony in the family, and it is easy for the extension services providers to visit the home and interact with the farmers.
The garden which is 1 acre is well designed, and Stella keeps a garden plan and crops planted on each bed, this helps her in crop rotation as she will easily see from the plan what crop was planted where and when to rotate. Some of the crops grown include; bananas, beans, maize, arrowroots, nappier grass, cassava, ground nuts and indigenous vegetables. They also rear indigenous poultry for eggs and meat provision and dairy goats for milk and meat. The family acquires its food and nutrition from their garden this ensures they consume food that is healthy since it is well grown using organic methods ensuring no artificial chemicals are used. They also use homemade pesticides from other local plants to fight of pests and diseases.
