Sultani Red Fig

The Soltani Ahmer fig is a native variety of Djebba fig (Ficus carica L). These fruits are dependent to multiple fruits category. The trees are growing up to 4–6m tall with large leaves. The fruits are having purplish red colour 3–5 cm diameter, its taste is sweet and fresh.
Soltani Ahmer fig is growing in heights of Mont el Gorrâa in Tunisia, located at an altitude of 600m. It is drought resistant, and is hardy adapt to the environment of Djebba.
Soltani Ahmer variety is rich in vitamins and calories as Wahchi fig and is well recommended as it has remineralising proprieties, good source of potassium and fibre. The particularity of this variety is that it fructifies very late, during winter between December and January. The only variety of Djebba fructifying during this period.
The local community is producing, processing in traditional way, and preferred consumed fresh. Soltani Ahmer variety is threatened by genetic erosion.
