Nemri belongs to one of the famous 17 figs (Ficus carica L.) varieties of Djebba El Olia which is a small village perched on the height of Mont El Gorraa in Tunisia.
The figs of Djebba are for its inhabitants and the neighbouring villages a delicious and refined dessert very typical from the region. In some cases, they are also present in traditional salty meals such as couscous or mesfouf.
The harvesting time takes place during August and September for the Karmous season

Since ancient times and apart from their culinary use; figs have been known to have laxative proprieties. Their juice is used to prepare curds and relieve stomach pain. They’re known to be a good source of energy and fibre.
Nemri’s trees are 4-7m high and gives a dense purple fruit in late summer that is 3-5cm long.
This is a drought resistant variety that is well adapted to the environment of Djebba.
