Fawari fig is one of the 17 figs varieties in Djebba El Olia: a small commune in Tunisia. All the fig trees are cultivated by lineage according to the rules of a customary law specific to the village.
The trees of Fawari are 4-7 meters tall and gives a sweet blue fruit in spinning top shape with 4-5 cm diameter and that fructifies in autumn.
This variety is drought resistant which makes it well adapted to the environment of Djebba.
Fawari is a variety that can be eaten fresh, both flesh and pulp are eatable and have a sweet delicate taste.
The diversity of this fig is currently threatened by genetic erosion.
