Dgagli Akhdar Fig

Dgagli Akhdar fig (Ficus carica L.) is a native variety of Djebba figs. The trees are growing up to 6-10 meters tall and their fruits diameter is 3-4 cm with a green color and yellow spots.
This variety is grown in the height of Mont el Gorrâa in Djebba, Tunisia. The Djebba fig, known throughout the country, is a flagship product of this small Tunisian commune. Prized for the richness of its terroir and the know-how associated with fig processing, Djebba hosts an exceptional local biodiversity, with more than 17 local varieties of fig exclusively grown in Djebba.
Dgagli Akhdar is grown for local consumption and is generally used for transformation, whether it be into jam, pastry or dried.
This is a late variety that fructifies late summer between August and September.
The number of trees is very small within this geographical area and therefore more vulnerable to disappear and highly threatened by genetic erosion.
