The Muyenga Women’s Garden is a community garden started in August 2015, located in Muyenga, Kampala district. It covers a plot of 18 m2. The garden is cultivated by 30 women and the main crops grown are banana, maize, cassava, potatoes and other vegetables. The group members share the produce amongst themselves and eat it themselves.
In order to manage pests, they use chili pepper, which is smashed in water and sprayed on the crops. During the sunny season, water is collected from a tap and the plants are watered using watering cans. The main challenges faced are thieves, animals and excess rainfall making the crops rot.
