The garden is situated in a rural area along Molo-Olenguruone Road in Karirikania village. Eighteen participants from the Furaha Women’s Group tend the quarter-acre plot, which is on the private farm of one of the women, growing local crops including nettles, tubers, cabbages and peas. Some of the participants are also involved in the Mau Forest Dried Nettles Presidium. The garden also includes a nursery of indigenous food trees that are planted in the garden and sold to the community. Eco-friendly garden management includes natural pest management, by growing repellent plants such as Pyrethrum, marigold and nettles, watering the crops only during the dry season and using compost and animal manure to enrich the soil. The fresh garden produce is consumed by members and the surplus is sold in the local market.
