This community garden it located near Kaytooy, along a road, and its size is 11 jibaals (1 jibaal, a local measure, is a half-acre). It is cultivated by the villagers, who grow different types of vegetables, fruits, oil seeds and cereals, including sesame, maize, carrots, spinach, onions and lettuce. 19 people from the village are involved in the garden activities. They can cultivate it all year long thanks to the nearby presence of the Shebelle river, and the an arable soil which is fit for growing crops. The soil is a fine tilth and is rarely ploughed; hand cultivation is mainly used in order to make the soil more easily penetrated by water. Crop rotation is applied, and sesame is grown after maize. This means that a higher yield is obtained, and the soil is filtered. Most products of this garden are consumed by the community and very little is sold; the income is used to cover the other needs of the families.
