This garden is in northern Uganda, Otweotai village, Banya parish, Amach sub-county in the Lira district. It was started on 15th August 2015. The garden has 35 pupils working on it – 15 boys and 20 girls. The crops that are grown include cabbages, “dodo” (amaranth) and “sukuma wiki” (collard green). Mulching and the presence of trees help to control erosion. Crop rotation is key in disease and pest control. Water is collected from wells to be used in the gardens during dry periods. The pupils work on the garden and they eat what they have harvested. The garden is also used as a learning centre for the children. Students transfer this knowledge to their home gardens.
