This school garden is located in the village of Buulo Kashiito. It was established in 2014 and it measures 11 jibaals (1 jibaal, a local measure, is a half-acre). Buulo Kashiito has 612 residents, they are all farmers and produce different crops, including cereals, vegetables and legumes such as maize, beans, tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, onions and spinach. The Shebelle river has an important role in improving the cultivation of the garden, since it gives water to the nearby canals which irrigate the garden. This means that the garden can be cultivated in all four seasons. 31 people are involved in the project, including one teacher. To protect the plants against pests, traditional methods are used, such as crop diversification, mixed cropping and spraying the leaves with a solution of pepper or neem leaf. The garden produce is used for student consumption and part of it is sold.
