Beds and ridges have been constructed to raise the crops to avoid flooding since the land is flat. The soil consists of sandy loam which is good for cropping vegetables, cereals and legumes. The crops grown in the garden include, peppers, african spinach, “ayoyo” (a leafy vegetable with the scientific name Corchorus, belonging to the Malvaceae family) and okra. These vegetables are used in preparing soups and stews which accompany the family’s main meals.
