The garden is located in Fokotony de Ambalamaharavo (an administrative sub-division in Madagascar), a rural township in Mahasaobe, Vohibato, Haute Matsiatra. To get there, you need to take the no. 7 state road towards Tulear to Andoharena. There, you have to take the path that goes towards the telephone line poles.
It provides the “baiboho” for seasonal growing of corn and beans and sometimes vegetables. The only available water for growing vegetables is rainwater. Production is normally for consumption.
The communities that make up the gardens usually grow: beans (phaseolus vulgaris, leguminosa), corn (zea mays,graminae), “voapoa” (solanum indicum, solanaceae), upland rice (oryza sativa, graminaea), manioc (manihot tilissima, euphorbiaceae). Production is meant for consumption and the surplus is sold in the Ambalavao or Andoharanomaintso market.
