The garden is located in northern Uganda, Lira district, Agali sub county, Agali village. Soils are managed using mulching to control soil runoff. Crop rotation and intercropping are used for nutrient balance and disease control. The garden is located on 800 square meters of land with 57 active students, of whom 27 are boys and 30 are girls. The crops grown are beans, “sukuma wiki”(collard greens), cabbage and tomatoes.
Rainwater is the only source of water.
The produce supplements the school menu and is eaten once a month from the school garden. The harvest is sold and the money is shared among those who are active in the garden.
Training on improved agronomic management practices to increase production and reduce pests and disease is needed.
