The Al-Tisaniya coffee tree is an evergreen shrub that can reach heights of up to 4.5 meters. It has green leaves and produces fragrant white flowers. The cherries that grow on the tree are typically round and red, offering a honey-like taste, a strong and pleasant aroma, and a smooth consistency.
When fully mature, the coffee tree can yield hundreds of cherries each year. Each cherry contains two seeds, which are the beans used to make coffee.
Coffee trees require more care than most other plants, and their lifespan ranges from 25 to 50 years, depending on the variety and growing conditions.
It is used in various forms as a beverage, ranging from light to medium to dark roasts, and is consumed at all times. It is served on all occasions as a primary drink symbolizing generosity and warm hospitality.
The Najran region is located within the coffee belt at an altitude of 1,300 meters above sea level. It is characterized by a dry climate, which offers a unique advantage for coffee cultivation. Coffee production in this region begins in October, making Najran a key area for coffee farming and production.
Coffee trees typically take two years to start producing fruit, and their lifespan can exceed 30 years. The coffee is processed using traditional methods and is roasted locally.
The methods of preparing and serving coffee vary worldwide, reflecting the identity of the people who serve it. In Najran, coffee holds a special significance, symbolizing hospitality and respect.

The origins of coffee can be traced back to the 9th century. According to legends, a shepherd in Ethiopia noticed the energizing effects of coffee beans. Its use gradually spread throughout the Arab world.
Al-Tisaniya Coffee is an authentic type of coffee whose production has been historically linked to a single family in the region. It was traditionally produced for home use only. Today, it is at risk of extinction due to the community’s shift away from farming and reliance on imported varieties.
