San Severo Earth Market

San Severo is an Apulian town of about 52,000 inhabitants in the province of Foggia and is an important center of ancient agricultural traditions, known especially for its wine production, thanks to which, in 1968, it received the recognition of the first Apulian DOC.
The city has a remarkable historical center, rich in baroque monuments, elegant palaces, monasteries and magnificent churches, to the point that in 2006 it was recognized as a City of art.

The official inauguration of the San Severo Earth Market, scheduled for mid-November 2020, has been temporarily postponed following the new provisions issued by the Italian Government in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic emergency.

The initiative is the result of a proposal by the Slow Food Foggia e Monti Dauni Convivium, following the launch of "Seminamenti", a project that organized direct sale of products from social agriculture.
The initiative was proposed by "Attivamente", a type B social cooperative that deals with the reintegration of disadvantaged people into work. This project has given rise to a structured network of local producers who, sharing the values of Slow Food and ethical and solidarity-based consumption, have decided to join forces to propose different activities.

The market will be held in the Porta San Marco area, in via Mercurio 3, at the intersection of via Zannotti and via Don Minzoni, where the local market of the "Porta San Marco" district was already present, the object of urban redevelopment in 2015.

To date, 10 exhibitors have joined the market: the offer ranges from local specialities (saffron, organic and indigenous wines, natural cosmetics) to everyday products such as jams, extra virgin olive oil. Among the exhibitors, it is important to underline the participation of several cooperatives aimed at social and the creation of ethical and "caporalato-free" supply chains.

The market area has parking facilities but the city is also well connected by rail and local public transport. From San Severo station the market is only 700 metres away by foot. It is also possible to reach the market with the urban transport lines n. 3 and 5. The San Severo highway exit is only a 5-minute drive away.
