The Markets of Terre Tuscolane are organized in itinerant form by the Slow Food Frascati and Terre Tuscolane Convivium, in the nearby municipalities of Frascati, Monte Porzio Catone and Rocca Priora in the area of Monte Tuscolo, the epicentre of the so-called “Castelli Romani” (Roman Castles) with recognized historical, tourist and cultural value.
The Earth Market of Frascati was the first to be inaugurated in 2013, followed the next year by the Market of Monte Porzio Catone.
The Market of Rocca Priora was opened in the summer of 2018.
The project was carried out thanks to the commitment of the Condotta and local administrations, together with the G.A.L. Parco dei Castelli Romani e Monti Prenestini and the Mountain Community.
The products are part of the local food system and come from small farms within a 50 km radius of the municipalities concerned, in order to guarantee their freshness and seasonality. Some of these have organic or biodynamic certification.
Today the market involves about 15 small producers who sell their fresh vegetables, fruit, stone-ground flour bread, extra virgin olive oil, fruit juices and preserves, honey, eggs, pecorino and buffalo cheese, flour, and traditional sweets.
The farmers sell their products directly, thus obtaining a fair price and personally meeting the consumers, encouraging the exchange of knowledge.
The Market also collaborates with other associations in the area, such as the Comunità degli Osti di Frascati with whom workshops and meetings dedicated to the food supply chain are periodically organised and open to the public.
The Markets are well connected to the neighbouring towns not more than 20 km away from each other. Frascati is connected to Rome by railway.
