Finca Vista Hermosa Earth Market

The Earth Market is located at Finca Vista Hermosa farm in Bacuranao in Havana’s Guanabacoa municipality. Finca Vista Hermosa is one of the promoters of the Finca Slow project and is part of a shared program for Latin America and the Caribbean. It’s an agroecological farm that produces vegetables, milk, cheese, and meat according to the principles of social and environmental sustainability.
The market is funded by Finca Vista Hermosa and Restaurante Mediterráneo Habana, which started a “Farm to Table” project in 2013. In 2019, they formed the Slow Food Community of Finca Vista Hermosa together with the chefs and producers of the market.
Visitors to the Earth Market can see food production on the farm, buy groceries, and spend some leisure time attending presentations and conferences or participating in various activities like horseback riding and carriage rides, rodeos, milking competitions, and prize draws.
The products are always varied and seasonal, and mainly traditional. Some of them are on the Slow Food Ark of Taste, including the caribbean casabe (a cassava-based tortilla), queso Nabacoa (a cheese made from raw milk from local La Mancha goats), and Cuban brown rabbit meat. There are also artisanal pork sausages and "slow" burgers, fresh vegetables, and fruits (especially carrots, eggplants, tomatoes, okra, mango, plantain, herbs, and bananas), raw milk dairy products products (yogurt, requesón y queso Flor de Cuba), quail eggs, preserves (pickles, juices), fermented drinks, and gastronomic specialties such as dulce de leche cortada (a typical Cuban dessert) and ajiaco criollo, a delicious stew with pork and beef, corn, and vegetables, one of the most typical dishes of Cuba.
The Cuban Slow Food Cooks’ Alliance is involved in the Market, presenting cooking demonstrations and taste workshops, and promoting the consumption of traditional recipes based on healthy products, many of which can be purchased at the market.
Access to the market by car is via an asphalt road, and there is ample parking capacity at the market site.
