Bolzano, also known as the "city of a thousand dialects", is a city rich in biodiversity: the Tyrolean tradition draws on the cultural richness of Italy and the Germanic countries.
The historic centre of Bolzano is home to real historical and cultural jewels, with a network of well-preserved and highly frequented alleys and meeting places. It is also one of the European cities that favours cycling, with an excellent network of cycle paths.
The Bolzano Earth Market (Bozen Markt der Erde) has been promoted by Slow Food Convivium Alto Adige, in collaboration with several small producers from all over the province of Bolzano.
The market was created, in part, to provide a meeting place and exchange for small businesses in the area, usually very fragmented, which adhere to the Slow Food philosophy. The project also aims to spread the Slow Food philosophy in Bolzano and South Tyrol, raising awareness of the large presence of ethnic cuisines in the territory of Bolzano, creating specific experiences in collaboration with local communities of migrants. In particular, Slow Food Alto Adige has long been working with the Ethiopian community of Bolzano to promote and support their gastronomic tradition.
About ten producers are already actively involved in the Earth Market with a rich offer, ranging from vegetables and fresh and seasonal fruit, raw milk cheeses from local breed of goats, sheep and cows and processed products of Pera Pala (compote, dried pears, cider, liqueur), a product of the Ark of Taste. There are also several Slow Food Presidiums in the region, such as the Brillenschaf sheep meat products and the Ahrntal Graukäse.
The space will be managed in collaboration with the non-profit social cooperative Officine Vispa and Cacciatori di Briciole and will be a place to present experiences of local integration in gastronomic and culinary contexts.
The project is sponsored by the Tourist Board of Bolzano.
