This community garden is located in Obriekori village in Serere District.
The garden is cultivated by 20 families, but is not big enough to meet their foods needs. Therefore, they have committed to making the garden an agricultural learning center for the community, to help boost local production and improve nutrition and food self-sufficiency. The garden teaches better farming methods and seed saving techniques for drought resistant, local and traditional crops like millet, cassava and sorghum and local vegetables such as eboo, egobe, ecadoi and emalakang. It also allows farmers to trial cultivation methods and crops before adopting them in their home gardens. There is a proposal for an agro-forestry development in the near future as well as a plan to start keeping local poultry. Garden produce is mainly consumed by the participating households and a small portion is sold on the market to support project.
