The Khalid Ibn Walid school is located in Temara, around 50km from Rabat.
The building hosts 290 students, who since 2013 have been working to create the garden. The children have deisgned their ideal garden. The land has been cleaned of rocks and glass (simultaneously putting into practice the idea of collecting and taking care of waste), divided into smaller plots and prepared for sowing.
Slow Food has created a Taste Workshop titled “We can produce our own food, so why aren’t we doing it?” to reawaken taste buds and consciousness about the topic of food.
Every day the garden’s activities involve six teachers and 60 children from the 6th grade (10-12 years old) on a plot of 50m2. So far the following have been planted salad, beets, onions, tomatoes, peppers, mint and sage.
At the moment they don’t have a sufficient quantity of organic waste to produce compost, but the children bring animal manure from home.
When the vegetables are harvested there are plans to organize a cooking workshop.
