Ajoda Oluwo community farmers group is made up of 12 vegetable growers. These gardeners plant year-round, as most of their 2.2 acres gardens are located in swampy area where there is always access to water from nearby ponds. The early maize harvest can easily be planted by these farmers thanks to their access to water.
These urban based farmers grow leafy vegetables which are useful for local consumption and can be easily sold at the local market. Some of these crops are lettuce, carrots, cabbage, maize, okra, “ugu” (Telfairia Occidentalis), “tete” (African spinach), “soko” (a variety of amaranth), sugarcane, etc. Poultry droppings and animal manure are used most to enrich the soil’s fertility. Ajoda Oluwo community garden is located along New Ife road, Ajoda town.
