Aba Alfa (meaning Malam Alfa family settlement) is a 25 acres community garden located in the mid-forest of Igbo Jaiye, Itesiwaju which falls under the local government of Oyo state. History recounts that the villagers migrated from neighboring towns to settle in this farming community. This is a pure organic village. Recently, about 26 farmers (9 women and 17 men) in this village were part of a group of 2,700 rural farmers that were certified as organic farmers through the group certification scheme. In order to maintain the sustainable farming system for food security and food sovereignty, these farmers have adopted the Slow Food philosophy of good, clean and fair food growing systems. The crops commonly grown by these farmers are cassava, soy beans, beans, yams, maize, ginger, vegetables, watermelons, snake tomatoes and many medicinal plants, such as garlic, moringa and others. Many of these crops are locally processed into varieties of food recipes for consumption while others are sold at the local community market.
