A Christmas sweet from Faido, probably Roman in origins. It consists of two sheets of thick dough, well-buttered, sandwiched together with a filling of chopped walnuts, spices, and soaked in grappa. A version of this dessert, made with the addition of honey in the filling, also exists. The dough of this cake is pressed with a mold (a wooden stamp that leaves an impression on the top of the loaf), and after baking the cake is compact and golden. Once upon a time, this sweet was produced by every family locally, and the individual loaves were impressed with the family crest. This sweet should be served hot (before eating, it is warmed up in the oven) and is excellent with red wine or with a strong local grappa.
