Also known as Pomodoro Grosso di Rotonda (Rotonda Big Tomato), it is produced in the homonymous municipality, in the province of Potenza. It is a vigorous plant, requiring growing supports both in glasshouses and open-air. Its fruits, extremely large in size (they can reach one kilo of weight), once ripe are bright red, with an irregular, globular ribbed shape (hence the name). Its meaty flesh, sweet rather than acidic, is extremely perfumed, with a few seeds and many lobes in proximity of its edges. Rotonda Ribbed tomato can be best appreciated raw in a salad, but it also yields good results made into a preserve.
