Neapolitan goat derives from various cross-breedings. It belongs to the large strain of Alpine goats and is native of the foot of Vesuvio and the Neapolitan side of Monti Lattari.It is a very rustic, middle sized breed, with distintive characteristics mutuated from Maltese, together with features from the local breeds. Its hair is short, with a uniform black or dark red colour; it can also be dappled with lighter round spots.Its head is relatively small,with a ram-like profile, horns and wattles; its ears are normal and hanging.
