Cilentana goat is still bred using traditional methods, with a large use of wild or semi-wild grazing, in the areas of Parco del Cilento and Vallo di Diano (in the province of Salerno).It is generally called Capra del Cilento or Cilentana and include three sub-breeds (with different morphological features), divided by the colour of their coat: grey, reddish-brown or black.It is partly used for meat, as light kid, and for milk. Its yield is not very high, even though it differs from farm to farm, but it is excellent in quality. It is almost entierly used for the production of Cacioricotta, one of the symbol cheeses of southern Italian cheesemaking.
